A Brief History of the San Luis Chapter

According to charter member Barbi Breen-Gurley, the group of dressage riders got organized in 1971 under the guidance of Sue Natalie. Barbi remembers 12 to 18 members. The original carousel horse logo was designed by local artist Marcie Hawthorne for a 1987 "Autumn Dressage Festival" which was a benefit horse show fund raiser. The chapter was dormant for 1989 and 1990 and was reorganized in 1991 by Ann Boyce, with about 33 members. Some of our members have been a vital part of the chapter for many years, including Barbi Breen-Gurley, Cee Cee Moss, Ellen Eckstein, Susan Dyke, Carol & Sally Friend, Michael & Ann Gorby, Geof Gurley, Sharon Jantzen, Janice Kissel, Ronda Lentz, Pam Lovell, Shelia Rand, and Tracey Wiley.
